Sacred Smoke: Incense Crafting Foundations
Time & Location
About the event
Have you ever been transported, elevated or touched by the scent of sacred smoke? If so, you may have wondered why so many cultures and traditions use incense in ritual and healing, or just what goes into those sticks or cones to make them smell so good. Perhaps you're familiar with names like sandalwood and frankincense but would like to get to know their specific aromatic personalities. Or maybe you simply welcome the chance to explore and learn in the wonderful world of natural fragrance.
Join us Sunday evening May 16th for a class in the fundamentals of incense-making, from ‘what’ to ‘how’ (we’ll touch on the ‘why’ as well). Through didactic learning and hands-on play, we’ll delve into the world of sacred and healing aromatics with sleeves rolled up.
You will learn:
-about the nature of scent and its potent psychophysiological effects
-how wise our olfactory organ is. The nose truly knows!
-the aromatic personalities of 10 foundational incense ingredients
-which local and exotic materials can be used as binders and in what proportions
-how to compose and blend your own formula
-to shape incense cones
You’ll take home your own custom batch of handmade incense featuring the ingredients you’re most drawn to, in the proportion that your nose tells you is right for you.
What to bring: notebook, pencil
*Please refrain from wearing scents to this class*
Course fee includes materials
Limited to 8 participants
We’ll meet rain or shine, but may need to postpone in the event of high wind.
Wind date: Sunday May 23
